14 Key Lime Recipes- Enjoy the tangy flavor of Key limes with these 14 recipes. They include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course dessert!

The Key lime is mostly known for the ever famous pie that most people know and love, but Key limes can be used in so many ways and with this list of 14 Key Lime Recipes, you will find all kinds of ways to use them. On top of fun ways to use them in various types of pies, you will also find that there are so many twists on the Key lime pie idea that you won’t run out of ways to enjoy this fun and tangy fruit.

Key limes are almost like regular limes although you may be surprised to know they are much smaller. Since Key limes are the star of this post, let’s look at some ways to enjoy them as well as the best ways to store and purchase them.

How to buy Key Limes

Many fruits marketed as Key limes are actually not Key limes at all. This can lead one to wonder if they are buying genuine Key limes to begin with. A true Key lime is not the bright or dark green you think they are, but rather a light green to yellow, is small in size and if you smell it, the rind will smell somewhat piney. Because Key limes are so rare to find anymore, you can get limes that are typically grown in Mexico that are close to what a key lime tastes like. These are called Creole limes. To get real Key limes, you may actually only be able to find them in the keys of Florida, or if you are lucky, buy them online. One way to also get Key lime flavor for recipes is to buy the juice as well.

How to Store Key Limes

To get the best flavor try to use up the limes as soon as possible, within 2 weeks. If you don’t think you will be able to, it is best to juice them and freeze. To do this, simply slice them in half and juice them. Store the juice in ice cube trays until frozen and then remove them from the trays and place in bags.key lime recipe

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
