11 Must-Try Leek Recipes- Here are 11 leek recipes you need to try! They include flavorful leek soups, pasta dishes, quiche, and even muffins!

Have you ever tried leeks or are you hoping to try them in some recipes? Leeks are great because they have a mild taste when compared to onions and they sweeten up a bit when cooked. They lend themselves to all kinds of wonderful recipes. The one thing you may have noticed about leeks is their size. This can make them hard to store and work with. If you happen to have some leeks on hand that you are wanting to use, or if you just want to try something new, here are 11 Must-Try Leek Recipes as well as tips on how to store and freeze leeks.

How to Store Leeks

When you get leeks home, it can be tempting to cut them down to fit better in your crisper drawer. This is not a good way to store them because they will go bad in a matter of days in the same way chopped onions do. Instead, store them unwashed and uncut or trimmed in the fridge. You may be able to get them to last up to two weeks this way.

How to Freeze Leeks

To freeze leeks, wash them first and them place them on a paper towel to fully dry. Once dry, cut off and trim the leek and cut into recipe size pieces. Place leeks on a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet to freeze and transfer to a bag when they are frozen. You cannot use frozen leeks the same way you would fresh ones because they lose some firmness after thawing. However, they are perfect for anything you don’t mind them being soft in, such as soups.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
