Pizza Toast

Pizza toast is a quick and easy recipe that is a hit any time of day. While your kids will think they are getting a treat for breakfast, you can feel good because you have complete control over the ingredients. I use a whole grain bread, my homemade pizza sauce, and quality cheese.

You can add leftover meat and veggies, but I use keep it simple and make cheese pizza toast. You also have options in how you prepare it. If you cook it under a broiler, it is done in 2 -3 minutes and has a crunchy “crust”. If your kids like “soft crust” pizza, then cook it in the microwave until the cheese melts which is usually less than a minute.

Ingredients:

Sliced bread (I usually plan 2 slices per person)
leftover pizza sauce (1 -2 tablespoons per slice)
cheese (2 – 3 tablespoons per slice)
leftover cooked meat (optional)
leftover veggies (optional or fresh sliced onions and peppers)

Directions:

Preheat over to broil.

Place bread on a cookie sheet (or microwave safe dish).

Spoon pizza sauce over the bread.

Top with cheese and any other ingredients you wish to add.

Broil until the cheese melts.

Serve immediately. You can use a pizza cutter to cut the toast into pizza sticks, which is easier for young children to eat.

Ha, awesome! We were watching my nieces and nephew overnight recently. They frequently have homemade pizza. There’s premade crust in the fridge, the adult adds sauce and cheese. Well, they ran out of crust. I tried in vain to convince them that pizza could be made on bread. Guess who ate pizza and who didn’t? 😉

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
