Tami, from Butter My Kitchen, is sharing a delicious recipe with us today.

sloppy joe pie recipe

Hi everyone, I’m Tami from Butter my Kitchen, and I am honored that Alea asked me to do a guest post for her. I ‘met’ Alea last year in the blogosphere leaving comments on each other’s blogs. She has always left kind comments on my posts and she kindly took time to answer questions I had regarding celiac and gluten intolerance.

I have been blogging for a little over two years and enjoy the creative process. I was born and raised in Minnesota and despite our rumored horrible winters, I do enjoy living here. My hubby and I are getting close to being empty nesters, as our oldest daughter is in college and our baby is about to graduate from high school. This will definitely give me pause; I don’t know if I remember how to cook for just two people!

Our youngest daughter is a picky eater; just like her Mother. She likes sloppy joes, but does not like the sauce out of a can as she does not like `chunks’ of onion or green pepper. A co-worker of hers had brought in some Sloppy Joe pie and gave Drama Queen some to try. She really liked it, other than the chunks from the Manwich sauce. She asked if I could make some kind of sauce without the chunks. While perusing the Internet, I found a couple different recipes for homemade sloppy joes, so I used a few ingredients from 3 recipes and came up with a sauce that had a little sweet and a little kick-and no chunks….other than the beef. I used the Bisquick recipe on line to get the bread-like topping.

sloppy joe sauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brown up 1 to 1-1/2 pounds ground beef in cast iron skillet. Pour off grease.

While ground beef is browning, place sauce ingredient in bowl and stir to combine well.

After pouring off the grease, add sauce ingredients to the pan and heat through.

Mix up the topping and pour over the filling.

Place skillet in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.

You can also make this in an 8 inch square baking dish.

Again, I’d like to thank Alea for the opportunity to guest post on her site; however I wish it were under different circumstances.

Tami is the author of Butter My Kitchen, a blog aimed at anyone looking for tried and true recipes to add to their collections, and some humor injected here and there that revolves around her wacky family and her cat Tofu. She is a working Mom to two daughters who are just about out of the nest and is married to a man who makes her laugh everyday and dreams of living on a sailboat or in Iceland when they retire in 15 years.

I make sloppy joes with "fake meat." I bet it would be great as a pie, like this. Great post! [email protected]Meatless Meals For Meat Eaters

yum! that sounds so very tasty. I never seem to enjoy the messiness that comes along with sloppy joes (or the very soggy bottom bun) and I think this is a perfect remedy to that. Thanks!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
