valentine's nutella-filled heart sugar cookies recipe

These Nutella-filled heart-shaped sugar cookies are a dreamy twist on classic Linzer cookies—perfect for Valentine’s Day when you want to show some extra love!

Buttery, tender sugar cookie sandwiches with a generous dollop of creamy, chocolate-hazelnut Nutella, with the top heart cookie dusted with powdered sugar and featuring a sweet little cutout window that lets the rich filling peek through like a delicious secret. These Nutella Linzer Heart cookies are elegant yet indulgent, and feel a little more decadent than traditional jam-filled cutout cookies, and are guaranteed to make hearts (and taste buds) flutter.

Whether you’re baking for your sweetheart, Galentine’s brunch, or just treating yourself, these beauties bring the perfect mix of cute and crave-worthy.

Nutella Heart Cookie Substitutions:

Nutella – If you wish to make these for your child’s class party, check the school’s policy on bringing in food containing nuts. If you wish, you can substitute chocolate frosting for the Nutella.

Prep-Ahead Sugar Cookie Tip:

The cookie dough needs to chill for at least one hour, but can chill for longer. So go ahead and make the cookie dough the day before you plan to bake the cookies.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
