Valentine's Day Heart Chocolate Chip and M&Ms Cookie Bars Recipe

Classic chocolate chips are kicked up a notch or two when you make this  Heart Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe for someone special.

Nothing says love like homemade, especially when it’s edible!  This  Valentine’s Day Heart Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe is a great way to show your affection for hubby, the kids, mom, and even to yourself. Treat everyone with thick sweet chocolate chip cookie in a heart shape and crusted with Valentine’s colored candies to make them even better. Toss on your apron and let’s get to baking these amazing bars.

Heart Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars Recipe

This recipe makes approximately 6 hearts with lots of little leftover bits for nibbling.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup Valentine M&M’s (Milk Chocolate Candies Cupid’s Mix)

Equipment:

  • 3″ Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a 9×9 baking dish with foil. Spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla.chocolate chip cookie recipe wet ingredients

  4. Add in the chocolate chips and Valentine M&M’s.chocolate chip cookie recipe with candy and chocolate chips
  5. Pour the cookie dough into the prepared baking dish and press a few extra chocolate chips and Valentine M&M’s on top.chocolate chip cookie recipe batter in pan
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before cutting into heart shapes.
  8. Once the cookie bars have cooled, gently lift them from the baking dish using the foil.
  9. Use the Heart cookie cutter to cut out the cookie bars and close together as possible alternating the cookie cutter up and down.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
