These classic vanilla cupcakes are the ultimate crowd-pleaser—simple, tender, and bursting with pure vanilla flavor. With a light, fluffy crumb and just the right amount of sweetness, they’re the perfect blank canvas for your favorite frosting, sprinkles, or whatever the event you’re celebrating calls for.

Whether you’re baking for a birthday, a bake sale, or just because, this straightforward recipe delivers reliable, homemade results every time. No fancy ingredients or complicated steps—just good old-fashioned butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla doing what they do best.

Vanilla Cupcake Recipe

This homemade vanilla cupcakes recipe makes 12 cupcakes. You can easily double this recipe to make 2 dozen.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 and line a 12 cup muffin tin with paper baking cups and set aside.

2. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt and mix well. Set aside.

3. Add butter and sugar to a mixing bowl and beat until fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. I beat mine for a minute, scrape down the sides and repeat 3 more times. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well after each egg, scraping down the sides. Add vanilla and beat well.

4. Add flour mixture and beat just until combined.

5, Using a 3 tablespoon portion scoop, fill each baking cup (about 3/4ths full).

6. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let stand to cool before frosting. We used this Fluffy Buttercream Frosting Recipe to top the cupcakes.
