With the Minions movie being released soon, I predict that there will be a lot of children who will want Minion themed birthday parties. These Minion cupcakes are easy to make and are a fun alternative to a birthday cake.

You can make your Minion cupcakes mostly from scratch by using your favorite white or yellow cake recipe and homemade buttercream frosting recipe or you can purchase a yellow cake mix and a tub of frosting. Twinkies are used to make the Minion cupcake toppers.

As a fun party activity, you could let the kids make their own Minion to put on top of their cupcake. To do this, make the cupcakes in advance and frost them. Then show the kids how to make a Minion using Twinkies, icing, and googly eyes. After the kids make their Twinkie Minion, they can place it on top of their cupcake.

4.  Then gently press the decorator eyes into the black dots.
5.  This will give the look of the goggles around the eyes.

6.  Then finish the straps of the goggles by adding a line of black icing down the side of the minion.
7.  Add some fun little mouth expressions on their faces.
8.  Once the cupcakes have been taken out of the oven allow them to cool completely.
9.  Take your buttercream frosting and mix in blue food gel until you achieve the desired color of blue frosting.

10.  Frost the cupcakes using plenty of frosting on each one.  I find this makes it sturdier so the minions do not fall.
11.  Add the minion bodies on top of the cupcakes and enjoy!!
12.  These are so fun and it’s a great activity to get the kids involved in.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
