Artown is here again and celebrating our community with several events, exhibits and workshops every day of the month. Here is a list of free family events at Artown 2016 perfect to experience with the kids.

7/1 – Discovery Story Time
9:30am – 11:30am
Tales from Underwood: Fred Mouse and the Underfolk meet a Very Big Owl. Story and art project.
7/4 – Family Series Celebrate America
Starting at 5:00pm
Bring the family for fun activities, projects and art. Men Wielding Fire, Dolce Delight will be on hand to dine. Then at 7:30 p.m. experience a free Fourth of July Celebration with Reno’s own Philharmonic. Followed by fireworks at dusk.
7/5 – Discover Improv
9:30am to 11:30 am
Bring your 6-12 year old actor to learn about the art of acting www.kidscape.com. Followed by project presented by Arts For All Nevada.
7/6 – Discovery the strings
9:30am to 11:30 am
Learn from Sierra Silverstrings about the fiddle then an art project.
7/7 – Discover Musical Zoo
9:30 am to 11:30 am
Colin Ross is back at Artown with a presentation of a variety of instruments for children to learn more about. Perhaps this is the event that will spark your child’s interest in being a musical performer? Followed by an art project presented by Arts For All Nevada.
7/9 – Hands On! Second Saturday
10:00am to 6:00pm
Bring the family and enjoy free admission, live performances, hands-on art activities and storytelling in this free monthly program for families.
7/10 – Meet Kids and Teen Authors
1:00pm to 3:00pm
Nevada Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the May Arborteum Society invite you to meet the members of Nevada SCBWI and explore the Arboretum. See why Nevada SCBWI has become known, around the globe, for supporting and producing amazing writers and illustrators. We’ll have coffee, snacks, conversation. Members will be selling and signing there books. The public, kids included, and members of NV SCBWI are invited.
7/14 – Discovery Street Art
9:30 am to 11:30 am
Tap focuses on rhythms and intricate footwork, creating a percussion instrument out of the dancer’s feet, essentially making tappers both dancers and musicians. This style of dance is aerobic and fun. Followed by a project presented by Eric Brooks from Sierra Arts Foundation. No tap shoes required.
7/16 – Arts For All
10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Join Arts for All Nevada during the annual free and open-to-the-public summer festival with eight art creation stations, face painting, a free book for each child, an exhibit and sale of fine art created by artists residing at the Riverside Artists Lofts, and tours of the historic Lake Mansion built in 1877.
7/18 – Discover Poetry
9:30 am to 11:30 am
Author and former UNR teacher, Joe Hunt, is excited to share the wonderful world of poetry with young, aspiring authors of Reno. Have fun with word-play! Learn about the ancient art of Haiku and Haiga. (Followed by a project with Peter Wittenberger from the Sierra Arts Foundation.)
7/20 – Discover Paiute Story Telling
9:30 am to 11:30 am
Reno’s rich and diverse history is celebrated in this important cultural event. Children will get to hear stories of the Paiute tribe come to life by master storyteller and Nevada Heritage Award recipient, Ralf Burns.. Followed by a recycled craft.
7/22 – Discover Irish Dance
9:30 am to 11:30 am
Bring your leprechauns to check out the unique grace of Irish dance. This interactive experience is sure to delight your dancers and non-dancers alike. Followed by a project presented by Peter Wittenberger from the Sierra Arts Foundation.
7/29 – Discover Water Color
9:30 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 pm to 3:00pm
This popular workshop has been delighting children for years. Come and learn, paint and have fun with the Sierra Watercolor Society. Limited to 50 children, and offered at 2 times, reservations are required.
