Premeditated Leftovers

Food Waste Friday

I don’t usually have much food waste, primarily because I have a teenage son, who is at this point in his life an indiscriminate diner! When we have waste it usually for one reason, and one reason alone: my kids are too nice! They go to such extremes saving the last serving of a favorite item that, unless I intervene, the last scoop of ice-cream sublimates, the last brownie fossilizes, and the last mango rots. This week I managed to save the last of the cherry tomatoes, radishes, and mangoes on Miracle Leftover Night, but I missed the last serving of penne noodles with red sauce. Tigger (16) saw me throwing out the noodles (meat can not go into the compost pile) and confessed that he was aware of them, but was saving them for Rew (2). Ugh! I do not know how to make this thoughfulness go away!
