Cloves smell great, but they are also many practical ways that you can use them around the house. Take a look at these 10 Creative Uses for Cloves.

Cloves are a delightful scent of the holiday season and have so many wonderful uses. Take a look below at 10 creative uses for cloves that you can try. You will find that they can be practical in the kitchen, when cleaning, and even when used in your beauty regimens. Here is how you can get started using cloves in your home.

10 Creative Uses for Cloves

1. Make a scented pomander.
Poke cloves into a small foam craft ball. Continue poking them in until the foam ball is covered. Add a bright ribbon for hanging and place anywhere you can use a touch of holiday scent and cheer.

2. Fight off flies.
Take an apple and poke 25-30 cloves in it. Set it out on your counter tops or any area where flies seem to be a problem. You will notice that they do not care for the scent and will find somewhere else to hang out.

3. Clean your shower.
Add a few drops of clove oil or a handful of crushed cloves to a spray bottle full of warm water. Shake well and use the mixture to clean showers, tile, sinks, and counters. You will enjoy a fresh scent and a clean shine.

4. Freshen up your closets.
Place a few cloves and a cinnamon stick in a cloth bag and place in any closet or small space that needs freshening up.

5. Repel mosquitoes.
Make a mixture of 2 cups of water, 2-3 drops of clove oil, or a handful of crushed cloves. Spray into the air where mosquitoes are present and enjoy less bites.

6. Fight off nausea.
Some people like to chew on a piece of clove to help get rid of nausea and heartburn. Only chew one clove at a time and do not digest it.

7. Banish ants.
Are ants a problem in your kitchen? Just place some crushed cloves or clove oil in their path. It will kill them and deter more from coming back.

8. Heal an earache.
Place some clove oil on a cotton ball and apply it to your ear to help soothe an earache.

9. Make your own potpourri.
In a saucepan boil 2 cups of water, a few cinnamon sticks, orange peels, and a handful of dried cloves. Heat the mixture on a low simmer. Your house will smell amazing!

10. Relieve muscle and joint pain.
Warm some cloves (roasting them for a few minutes works great) and wrap them in a soft towel. Apply the towel to any sore spots you may have and feel the pain relief!

Cloves smell great, but as you can see they have other fantastic uses too. Give these 10 creative uses for cloves a try!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
