Wine bottles have so many practical and decorative uses, so why throw them out? Take a look at these 10 Frugal Uses for Wine Bottles.

Wine bottles are beautiful in color and shape, and you may be tempted to hold onto yours long after it is empty. If so, take a peek below at 10 frugal uses for old wine bottles that you need to know about. Wine bottles have so many practical and fun uses, you may never throw one away again. Take a look below at some great ideas to get you started.

10 Frugal Uses for Wine Bottles

1. Create a Tuscan themed candle holder.
Place a pillar candle in the mouth of your wine bottle and enjoy a dinner under the stars. You see candle holders like this when dining in Italy, so it is a fun way to bring a little bit of Italy to you.

2. Sell them to crafters.
Some crafters like to melt the glass down and create items such as sun catchers and cheese boards. Find local crafters in your area and see if they would be willing to buy your wine bottles from you. You may not get much, but even a dollar or two is better than nothing!

3. Make a ring toss game.
Place the bottles on a flat surface. Then, take rings made from pipe cleaners or glow stick bracelets to play ring toss. Have kids try to make the ring land on the neck of the bottle. The person who can make the most rings land on the bottle wins.

4. Make a wine themed centerpiece.
Take a small strand of twinkle lights and place them deep into the bottle. You can then glue on some faux grapes, grapevine greenery, etc. Plug in the lights and you have a fun, wine themed centerpiece that is sure to light up any space.

5. Reuse them as vases.
Peel off the label and use the wine bottles as a vase for flowers. You can even spray paint the glass with your favorite color paint if you wish. Whether you choose gold, silver, or even neon colors, this is a fun and inexpensive way to spruce up a space.

6. Make a dish soap dispenser.
Wash the wine bottle well and fill it with your favorite dish soap. Replace the cork or buy a dish soap dispensing lid at your local Bed Bath & Beyond. This is a fun way to keep your dish soap out where you need it while still looking decorative!

7. Make infused oils.
Fill wine bottles with your favorite olive oil and drop in various fresh herbs. Some examples may be thyme or rosemary. Allow the herbs to infuse the oil. You can then create your own label if you wish and give the oil as a gift.

8. Make garden markers.
Bury the bottle into your garden until just the neck sticks out. You can then place picks in the bottles to hold signs for your garden. The signs can be whimsical or practical, telling what is planted in a particular spot.

9. Make sun catchers.
Wine bottles in various colors can be placed in windows as instant and easy sun catchers. You can dress up the bottles further by adding ribbon or even painting additional designs on them with craft paint.

10. Make a lamp base.
Buy a lamp kit at your local hardware store. While it takes a little work, you can wire the bottle so that it can be used as a lamp base. Basic tools are all you need, and be sure to be patient. However in the end, you will have a fun and funky lamp you made yourself.

Don’t toss those empty wine bottles, instead, give them new life using one of the suggestions listed above!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
