1. The overall cost is cheaper. Depending on your destination and how many are going with you, driving is much cheaper than flying for most families. Even considering hotel stays along the way you will typically find it to be less expensive.
2. It’s a great way to see more national landmarks. You can plan your route around national landmarks, state capitals, or points of interest between your home and destination.
3. It’s a great time to chat with kids about serious topics. From talking about the birds and bees, to religion, politics, or other serious topics long road trips are definitely a great time to approach these subjects.
4. You can check out local history along the road. Not only can you check out landmarks, but historical sites and even local history in small towns can create great memories to share with your kids.
5. You can bring your own groceries. No worries about eating fast food the entire time. You can pack your own groceries to create snacks and full meals along the way.
6. You can bring more luggage. You aren’t limited to just one bag or carry on. If you need an extra pair of shoes, they will easily tuck into your car.
7. Cars are physically more comfortable. For those who have problems fitting into airline seats, are taller and need leg room, or even have back issues and need to get up and stretch road trips are easier than flying.
8. You can teach your kids things like the fun game, “Slug Bug”. All the classic road trip games are great to share with your kids for laughs and to kill time.

17. You can stop at local farmers markets. This is a personal favorite. No matter where we are on the road, I can locate a great local farmers market to buy fresh local produce to eat on the road.
18. You might find great collectible items on the way. Bringing home postcards, magnets, spoons, shot glasses and similar is a trap that I personally love falling into.
19. You can see the climates and cultures of other states. Teaching your children about other states and their climates and even cultural differences is so amazing when on a road trip.
