3 Habits of Savvy Spenders - Living on a budget does not mean you have to stop spending money. Here are some tips for spending without blowing your budget.

When it comes to managing your money, many people talk about the things you can’t spend money on. We are taught that you have to create a budget, stick with it, and not spend a dime or else you are throwing away money.  You don’t have to feel like you can’t spend any money, but the key is to make sure you are spending it wisely. You can still spend money and have fun, but having a new perspective and learning how to be a savvy spender is what makes all the difference. Here are 3 habits of savvy spenders to help you understand how to spend wisely.

3 Habits of Savvy Spenders

Find The Best Deal

If you’ve found something that you feel like you have to have, checking for the best deal is one of the first things you should do. Gone are the days of having to drive from store to store. You can easily use an app or do a quick internet search to see where you can find the cheapest items. Many items are cheaper at Amazon.com than at your local stores even with shipping. Don’t be afraid to shop around and even ask retailers to match or beat prices.

Set Money Aside to Spend

If you know that you enjoy shopping, saving money ahead of time is key. Make sure you are budgeting to have fun money to spend. This way, there are no surprises, and you can enjoy the money you put aside for this purpose. You are less likely to overspend if you work it into your budget.

Pick and Choose

Honestly, you can’t have it all. As you become more money conscious, one of the things you learn is how to handle your money and how to pick and choose what you spend your money on. Sometimes you may not be able to get the dress AND the shoes, or you have to choose at a restaurant if your want the lobster OR the glass of wine. You can’t have both, but savvy spenders know how to pick and choose from day to day to still get what they want.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
