Canning jars seem to be all the rage lately. And why shouldn’t they be? They are easy to find, inexpensive, durable, and can be used in so many different ways! Canning jars are perfect for acting as spice canisters. Place your flour, sugar, tea, coffee grounds, spices, and other kitchen ingredients in them. Twist the lid on tightly and they are sure to stay fresh. You can even add chalkboard label to the front of them for some extra cuteness! It will work great on sinks. counters, and can even clean your disposal. When empty, just refill! No more empty cleaning containers to toss away!

4. Store your dishwasher pods.
Keep your dishwasher cleaning pods (or your homemade tabs!) on hand in a canning jar. It will keep them high and dry and away from little hands. The clear glass also lets you see how many are left, helping you avoid the dreaded, “the dishwasher is full and I have no tabs!” dance.

5. Use a canning jar in place of several dishes and utensils.
Need to mix something? Instead of grabbing for a mixing bowl, place the ingredients in a canning jar, place the lid on, and shake away. Need a drinking glass? Use a canning jar! Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
