Here are 6 Get Fit Tips for the New Year that wont cost you a lot of time or money. Give them a try in order reach new health and fitness goals.

As you begin another year with the decision to get healthy, you may not know where to begin.  Here are 6 Get Fit Tips for the New Year that are easy to implement into your life.  Not only will these things help improve your level of health, they won’t cost you a lot of money nor a lot of time to make them happen.

6 Get Fit Tips for the New Year

Give up soft drinks. Not only are the added sugars in soft drinks unhealthy, the calories ingested in drinking them daily add up quickly.  Give up soft drinks and replace with fruit infused waters.  There are tons of great infusion pitchers and water bottles that will make this easy, fun and  a treat.

Take the stairs. Instead of using the ramp or elevator at work, in department stores, hotels and even grocery stores, take the stairs.  Even a few extra steps per day can help boost your heart rate and metabolism.  Just keep moving to make a difference in your health.

Park at the end of the lot: Instead of looking for the closest parking spot to the store, purposely park in the farthest spot you can find.  The extra steps are great added exercise in your busy day.  Most large parking lots can give you several hundred added steps into your day.  Take them at a brisk rate and get your heart rate up in the process.

Stretch your muscles daily. Stretching is so important for your overall health.  Not only does it loosen your body up for other exercise, it in itself helps your muscles flex, your body move in fluid motion and prepare to feel healthier.

Take a class. Sometimes it takes exercising in a group to get us motivated.  Check out your local gym, community center or even library for small classes like yoga, Zumba or even a boot camp program.  Taking a class gives you accountability and perhaps a few new friends too.

Use portion control. If knowing portions is a tough thing for you, check out some of the great portion plates available.  Practice portion control to help hold yourself accountable for what you are eating.  We have become too use to large portions in restaurants, and have forgotten that an actual portion is typically much smaller.

These get fit tips for the new year are sure to help set you on the path to success.  Remember that your health journey isn’t only about numbers on a scale or inches around your waist.  Your health begins with a healthy self image and goals for improved health and fitness, not vanity based losses.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
