5 Tips to Eat Clean- Eliminate processed foods from your diet and start living a healthy lifestyle with these simple tips for eating clean.

I bet you have heard the term, “Eat Clean” before, or people saying that they Eat Clean. What does that really mean? And more importantly, is it easy to do? In the simplest form, it means not eating any processed foods or fast food. It also includes eating whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, nuts, and seeds. Here are 5 Tips to Eat Clean and help get on a healthy living lifestyle.

5 Tips to Eat Clean

1. Skip processed meats.

Instead of going to the deli counter and ordering a pound of sliced meat, go to the meat counter and buy a roast and cook it at home and then slice or dice it up. Doing this with all meats is preferred, as processed meats often have salt and additives. Not only will cooking high-quality meats from scratch be healthier for you, it will save you money.

2. Fresh fruit and vegetables.

Eating fresh produce seems easy enough, but some people have a hard time doing this year-round. The trick is to eat fruits and vegetables when they are in season. Buy more of fresh produce when it is in season and then freeze it for later. Freezing your in-season fruits and vegetables means they are frozen at the peak of freshness, and there are no preservatives added. If you crave an out-of-season fruit or vegetable, buy it from the frozen section of the store. Choose canned produce carefully. Canned vegetables and fruits may have sugar or salt added to them. They may also contain additives.

3. Limit grains.

When eating grains, buy whole grains whenever possible. Processed grains often have nutrients and essential fiber stripped from them.

4. Avoid soda.

Soda is one of the worst things that we put into our bodies. With all the different types of tea on the market, you can have a great assortment to flavors to choose. Flavored tea and flavored waters make it easier to eliminate soda from our diet.

5. Eliminate refined sugar.

Instead of eating refined sugar, use honey or agave nectar to sweeten things up. Also, try experimenting with sweetening items with juice or pureed fruit. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg can sometimes lessen the need for sugar in a recipe.

These are five tips that you can do today to change your daily diet and will have an impact on your lifestyle. Whole foods taste amazing, and they are high in nutritional value – so eat them and your body will be happier for it. Instead of spreading peanut butter on a cracker, spread it on celery or a carrot stick. Grab fresh blueberries for a snack over a granola bar. Make a raspberry tea and say goodbye to that diet soda. Simple changes can produce significant effects.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
