7 Tips for Enjoying Hassle-Free Returns- Returning items after the holidays doesn't need to be a headache. Use these tips to help the process go smoothly.

After the holidays are over, you might find yourself with an assortment of gifts that you just can’t use. The item may be too big, too small, the wrong color, or simply not your taste. Whatever the case may be, take a look at these 7 Tips for Enjoying Hassle-Free Returns. When you give these tips a try, you can enjoy stress-free returns and get the gift you really want. Here is how to get started!

7 Tips for Enjoying Hassle-Free Returns

1. Identify where the item came from.
There are several ways you can do this. You can either ask the gift giver where they bought the item, or you can reference the gift receipt you hopefully got. If you can’t do either of these things, call the stores you think the item may have come from and read them the SKU#. This will help identify if it came from their store.

2. Know the return policy.
Get online and look at the return policy of the store you wish to return the item to. This way, you can know what your time restrictions are and what items you will need for the return. You can also see if the item you bought is even returnable. The store return policy will have all of this info.

3.  Gather your paper work.
Gather any receipts or gift receipts you may have. Also be sure to have an ID as many stores now require one when returning an item.

4.  Check the condition of the item.
Be sure the item is in its original box, closed well, free from damage, and clean. The better condition it is in when you return it, the less likely you are to run into any problems. If there is something wrong with the item, be sure to tell the customer service rep that is why you are returning it.

5.  Return the item during non-peak hours.
Don’t battle the crowds. Instead, return the item in the early morning when crowds are thin. You should also wait until about a week after Christmas, as the few days after are typically the busiest for returns.

6. Be prepared for various return options.
You may not get cash back for your return. Be prepared for various options. Store credit or a swap of a like item may be offers that are on the table.

7. Get a receipt for your new item.
Should you exchange your item or use a store credit for new items, be sure to get a receipt. You will need it should you run into any issues in the future.

When you give these tips a try, you can find that returning items after the holidays doesn’t have to be headache.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
