DIY Wall Decor - Modern Wall Art

I have been looking for DIY Wall Decor ideas for our newly remodeled mud room and wanted something just a little more modern.  I’ve seen some really beautiful 3 dimensional pieces of decor that I just LOVE but wow are they expensive!  That’s when I decided to try making something fun and dimensional myself.  Can you believe this is made with plain, white cupcake wrappers?!?

DIY Wall Decor – Modern Wall Art

Supplies:

  • glass panels – I used glass from Dollar Store picture frames (already cut to size and inexpensive)
  • white cupcake wrappers in 2-3 sizes
  • hot glue and glue gun

supplies needed for diy wall decor - modern wall art

Instructions:

What is really great about this project is that nothing has to be even, perfect, measured, or exact!  Just glue the cupcake wrappers onto the glass panels to create flowers.  You’ll actually want all of the panels to be a little different so just have fun and be creative!

The only placement that is important is for there to be one wrapper placed where you might attach a hanger on the back.  That is why you see a small wrapper at the top center of each panel.

How to create modern wall art using glass and cupcake liners.

If you plan to hang your glass panels, you will need to purchase an adhesive that will bond to glass and metal and to purchase enough small picture frame hangers for one on each panel.  You’ll want to actually do this before adding your wrappers so that you can allow plenty of time for your adhesive to bond to the glass.  You would not want this to come loose and have the glass panels fall.  In my mud room, these are displayed on a deep shelf so I did not add a hanger.

If you’re reluctant to use actual glass panels due to the risk of them breaking, you can find panels of acrylic or Plexiglas for very little at most home improvement stores.  They will even typically cut them for you.

That’s it!  Display your modern wall art for great wall decor in any room!  I absolutely love how these look against a colorful wall, with the color showing through the glass.  This would also be fun with bright colored wrappers!  What do you think of our modern wall art?

Your project turned out so cute. What a good imagination you have. You’re right about so many purchased decorations are way too expensive. You overcame that. Good job.

What a very unique and genius way of using cupcake wrappers! Plain white isn’t quite my cup of tea so I’d love to see some pops of color but either way it’s pretty darn creative 🙂

I don’t generally go for the whole modern art vibe, but this project brings in just the right amount of whimsy with the cupcake wrappers. Love it.

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
