DIY Wine Cork Owl Family Wreath- This homemade wreath displays little owls made out of wine corks. It's a sweet and simple craft to make for a new family.

Owls have been quite the rage in home decor for awhile now. I wanted to create a sweet and simple decorative item to represent a new little family that had been formed with the birth of a baby. I thought that a sweet little owl family wine cork craft resting in their “nest” was just the thing.

I made this DIY Wine Cork Owl Family Wreath entirely out of items I already had on hand in my craft stash, so this was a free upcycled craft. I used a small 6” wreath, but if you want to add more than 3 owls you will want a bigger wreath as mine just fit. You can even customize your wreath to match your home decor colors. This would be a sweet addition to a woodland themed nursery or as a housewarming gift for a new family just starting out.

Materials:

  • grapevine wreath
  • wine corks
  • small buttons
  • ½” ribbon
  • ¼” ribbon
  • burlap ribbon
  • popcorn kernels
  • glue gun/sticks

Directions:

1. If you are making small owls to represent little ones cut your wine cork in half with a serrated knife.

2. Cut two 2” pieces of ribbon for each big owl and 1 ½ “ pieces for the little ones. Fold them in half and secure cut ends together with hot glue.

3.  Glue on 2 small buttons for eyes, a kernel of popcorn for the beak (pointed end down), and  your glued ribbon wings.

4. Tie a burlap ribbon hanger onto the top of your wreath, I cut mine at about 12″ so that it hung approximately 5″ down after folding and tying off the end.

5. Secure your owl family with a generous amount of hot glue, holding each owl in place for about 2 minutes until glue sets. Otherwise they will move. Place them as you wish inside the wreath or you could also add a monogram if would you like to personalize it further.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
