Essential Oils to Take on a Camping Trip- Pack these essential oils on your next camping trip to repel insects, reduce nausea, and help you sleep better

Camping is a great way to get back to nature and enjoy quality family time. The car is ready to go, you’ve double checked your packing list, and you’re ready to hit the open road. But did you remember to also pack your essential oils? Here are Essential Oils to Take on a Camping Trip as well as helpful ways to use them while you’re roughing it.

Essential Oils to Take on a Camping Trip

Lemongrass Essential Oil: The main ingredient in Citronella candles is lemongrass. It repels many flying insects including two that many campers are not big fans of – mosquitoes and flies. Either make a spray bottle to take with you or mix it up at your campsite. Add 10-15 drops of lemongrass essential oil and fill the rest up with water. Spray this on the flaps of the tent, the tablecloth covering the picnic table, and on any other fabric where you will be hanging around. It is safe to spray on your skin as well. Spray it directly or make your own mosquito repellent with lemongrass essential oil, coconut oil, and water in a spray bottle. You can also add a few drops to cotton balls and place those around your campsite to keep the flies and mosquitos at bay.

Ginger Essential Oil: Having an upset stomach while out camping is no fun for anyone. Add just 1-2 drops of ginger essential oil to a large glass of water and drink it. The ginger will help settle the stomach down right away. You can also breathe it in straight from the bottle as well. If you get motion sickness and are planning on going out on a boat or on a kayak, make a roll-on using coconut or jojoba oil. Roll this onto your inner wrists and back of the neck before you head out onto the water.

Lavender Essential Oil: Not only can lavender essential oil to help you relax and to sleep better, especially being in a different place, but it also great to have in your first aid kit. Lavender takes away the stinging from insect bites and minor burns. You can apply it directly or with a carrier oil to help treat wounds, bites, burns, and other skin ailments. Lavender also repels many insects and can be used alongside the lemongrass essential oil.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
