If you are looking for a creative outlet or a way to de-stress, these tips on how to find a new hobby may be just what you need.

If you are looking for a way to get started on a new hobby, check out these tips on how to find a new hobby that fits your lifestyle and interests.

Most of us know that having a hobby is something we should try to do for a couple of reasons. We need an outlet that isn’t stressful and hobbies allow us to let our creative energy or even physical stress out. The problem can come when you aren’t even sure how to get a new hobby or what you are interested in. This can be a challenge because with our daily lives being busy or our focus being shifted, we may not even know how to relax and have fun anymore. If you are looking for a way to get started on a new hobby, check out the tips below on how to find a new hobby that fits your lifestyle and interests.

How to Find a New Hobby

Check out online resources – There is a website that is actually geared towards helping people find a new hobby. It’s called Discover a Hobby and it includes entire databases on hobbies that people like to do broken down into categories such as collecting, arts and crafts and sports. If you click on the links, it takes you to subcategories for some of the most popular hobbies in that category that include videos, instructions, and even hand-picked links.

Look at your local library’s schedule – Not sure where to even begin or don’t have the funds to start a new hobby you may not enjoy? Check with your local library! Many offer free classes for things like painting, journaling, or even cooking. Most of the time these classes are free and open to the public.

Scour Pinterest – There are endless ways to spend your time on hobbies on Pinterest. You can find new hobby inspiration for everything from woodworking to crochet if you use Pinterest like a search engine.

Consider what you liked to do as a child – Was there a hobby you enjoyed as a kid that you might want to pick back up again? If not, was there one you wanted to try back then but weren’t able to for some reason?

Expand on things you already like – I have found many hobbies by just expanding on the ones I already enjoy. For instance, I enjoy jogging. This led me to explore other ways of being and getting fit. I have now added hiking, tennis, and weightlifting to my list of hobbies.

Use a coupon – Sites like Groupon are great to look for hobby ideas locally. You can often take a single class at a beginner level with a deep discount for things like tennis, painting, cooking, or even kickboxing! This is a great way to try something out a time or two to see if it’s worth doing more of.

Do something with a friend – Sometimes the best hobbies are done with a partner. Check out some hobbies you both like doing or introduce a friend to your favorite hobby and ask them to do the same.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
