Frugal Christmas Decorating Ideas- Here are some easy ways to decorate on a budget this Christmas. You can make your home look festive without overspending.

Christmas is just around the corner and if you are like me, having your home decorated for the holidays is part of the fun. However, this has been a tough economic year for many of us. Our budgets have been stretched and there isn’t much room in it for decorative items. Here are some easy ways to decorate your home on a budget this Christmas!

Frugal Christmas Decorating Ideas

Bring in Greenery from Your Yard

Nothing says Christmas like greenery. If you have pine trees and other evergreen bushes growing in your yard, there is no reason to buy greens. Look around your yard for greenery, pine boughs, holly, and pine cones that you can use to decorate your home. Place greens on the mantle, use them to create a centerpiece, or make a Christmas wreath. Don’t forget to look up in the trees for mistletoe.

Check Out the Dollar Store

Your local dollar store will probably have some nice small decorative items like candles, garland, faux berries, and stockings. Buy a couple things from the dollar store to place around your home. Group red or white candles of different heights in mix-matched candle holders to create a lovely centerpiece. A few well-placed decorations will create a festive look!

Visit Your Local Thrift Shop

Many thrift stores put seasonal décor out during the holidays. You can find really nice decorations for only a few dollars. You never know what you will find, so keep an open mind and be willing to improvise with your thrift shop treasures. You can pick up a small vase and a candle stick and then glue them together to make a Hurricane Candle Holder. Don’t forget to look in the linen section for table décor.

Create Your Own Decorations

There are many tutorials for creating your own Christmas decorations. You can make handmade Nativity scenes, create your own  Christmas tree ornaments, and make homemade Christmas decorations.

Adorn Your Home With Kid’s Crafts

Two left thumbs? If you really do not like making your own crafts, then let your kids do the decorating!  Use your kids’ Christmas crafts that they bring come home from school as part of your Christmas décor. Your friends and family will love it and your kids will take pride in seeing their art prominently displayed.

What are some ways that you like to decorate for Christmas on a budget?

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
