How To Get Your Home Ready For Spring - tips to get your home ready for spring by organizing, cleaning, and doing some basic home maintenance.

The weather has been slowly getting warmer and I am happy to say the last two days have been filled with blue skies. I am finally starting to see buds on the trees as well. These signs of Spring get me so excited for the renewal of life that happens when winter finally goes away for another year and the earth wakes up from it’s slumber.

With Spring comes chores, but for some reason these don’t seem to bother me as much as other times of the year. It is almost a breath of fresh air to start getting ready for my favorite season. There is so much to do and here are some tips to help you ready your home for brighter days ahead.

How To Get Your Home Ready For Spring

First you will want to clear away any clutter that has built up over the winter. This will probably the most daunting of all the Spring cleaning tasks. If you find you are out of storage space, you may want to get rid of some things or rent a small storage unit to store away winter equipment and clothing items. Here are more tips for decluttering your home for Spring Cleaning.

Go through each room in the house and change out heavy winter clothing for spring clothing. One way to keep things well organized for when winter hits again, is to take a clothespin and clip your mittens and gloves together. You can then store them in plastic bags and boxes so they are neatly packed away for next season.

Winter often brings with it a lot of grime and dust. Do a thorough cleaning of doors, walls and floors to get rid of any that has accumulated. Pay extra attention to your entry ways.

Change outdoor lighting so you have it fresh and ready to go for nice nights spent on the patio. You could also go through your home and dust off any light fixtures and replace any bulbs that are needing to be replaced.

Speaking on doors and entry ways, spend some time bringing them back to life. Polish any chrome or brass door knobs, wipe off any fingerprints and clean sliding glass doors and the handles. This is also a great time to find or make a new door hanging that says “Spring” to you. If you have a welcome mat, clean it to get rid of winter dirt and buildup.

Do a little freshening up of rugs. Vacuum with a sprinkling of baking soda and if the day is especially nice outside, hang them over banister or on a strong clothesline to freshen them. Make sure to do some spot checking for stains.

Now is a great time to clean your air filters. Replace any that need replacing and clean out any spots that have dust bunnies.

If you didn’t in the fall, you should flip your mattresses. Refresh your mattresses by vacuuming them and changing out any mattress pads. This is also a good time to get new pillows, especially if you have allergy sufferers in your home.

Place some nice reminders that the good weather is coming with some finishing touches. Add some brightly colored candles, some fresh spring scents in your air fresheners and give your bathroom and kitchen a scent makeover with some delightful fresh scented hand soaps. You could also get some fresh flowers and place them in vases around your home to invite the nicer weather.

I’ve started my spring cleaning early to make sure that I’m ready to throw open the windows and enjoy the garden when the weather warms instead of being inside cleaning.
Now I need to add the finishing touches as you mentioned.
    Cheers,
    Marie

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
