Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats- These dog treats are easy to make right at home. They're gluten-free and will help freshen your dog's breath naturally!

We all know that no matter how much we love our pet, their breath can really be horrid even with occasional brushing and vet checkups. I prefer to make my dogs treats at home because it is so easy and I don’t have to worry about where it comes from or what’s in it.  So it was a pretty natural step to try my hand at natural and gluten-free treats. These Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats must be a hit because all three of my furry girls gobble them up immediately when I pass them out. Chances are, your dog will love them too!

Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups oat flour
  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 egg, large
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 3 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 1-2 tablespoon water

You can purchase ready-made oat flour or you may have some on hand already, but it is easy and cheaper to make yourself.  Place rolled oats in a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender and mix until it is a fine flour.

Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats- ingredients

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Line a baking sheet with foil or a silpat mat.
  3. Now you can either chop your fresh herbs or toss them in your coffee grinder/food processor and mix until well chopped but not liquid.Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats- chop herbs
  4. Combine oat flour, egg, coconut oil, chopped herbs, and essential oil in a large bowl  and stir until well mixed.Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats- mix batter
  5. Dough will be thick and sticky. Add water a couple tablespoons at a time until consistency is good for rolling out. This varies slightly depending on altitude, moisture in your herbs, etc.
  6. Roll dough out onto a floured surface (I use additional oat flour) and cut out in desired shapes. These dog bone cookie cutters are really fun! You can make these as small or as large as you like depending on the size of your pups.Gluten-Free Fresh Breath Dog Treats- cut out bones
  7. Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Using a spatula helps keep their shape. Bake for about 30 minutes or until lightly golden brown.  Allow to cool completely then place in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days.

I have the pickiest dog! She wouldn’t eat the store bought treats the vet recommended. 🤦‍♀️ so I searched for a homemade alternative and came across this recipe, and jade LOVES them!! Thank you!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
