- scissors
- tape
- gift tags
- ribbon
- bows
- colored pens and markers
- cards of all types
- stamps
- stamp pads
- tissue paper
- boxes
- table for wrapping gifts
Not all of those are must have items, but just ideas to get you started thinking on what you want to include in creating your own gift wrapping station.
You must also determine where you would like to keep your gift wrapping station. Ideally, a gift wrapping station would be kept in a full size closet that you happen to have in your house that is unused. While this is an ideal situation it is probably not the case! So look around and see what area you do have available to work with. Some ideas would include the back of a door, a portion of a closet, a spare cabinet, in a cedar chest, on a wall, or in a moveable cart. Look through your house and see what is going to work best for your space.
Once you have your area picked out it is time to start organizing it. There are plenty of premade gift wrapping stations out on the market that hang on doors or in your closet. However, you may have some items around your home that you can use to create your own wrapping station.
Organizing your wrapping paper:
You can store rolls of wrapping paper in a suit bag. This works best if your wrapping station is contained in a closet.
You can store rolls of wrapping paper in a tall kitchen garbage can.
You could also find some wooden or plastic dowel rods at your local hardware store to hold your wrapping paper. This works best if you stick to a couple of colors and the use ribbons to add variety to the packages.
Organizing scissors, markers, and tape:
A nice desk organizer will hold your scissors, ink pens, and tape.
If you don’t have an unused desk organizer you can always save your old cans or condiment jars and hot glue them together.
If you are organizing your gift wrap in a closet, you can use a hanging show bag to organize all of your gift wrap tools.
Organizing ribbons:
If you use dowels for wrapping paper it is easy to add an extra dowel for your ribbons.
You can use an old shoe box to organize your ribbons. Place all of your ribbons inside a show box standing on their side. Cut holes in the side of the box and string your ribbon through. The box will help keep your ribbons from falling all over the place and unraveling. Then when you want to use it just tug on the ribbon and cut off what you need.
Whether your space is mobile or contained to one area, it will all be in one space and easily accessible for all of your gift wrapping needs. Much better than losing valuable money and time replacing it each and every time you need to wrap a gift!
Organizing Gift Tags:
You can organize your gift tags by occasion in a binder. Use a hole punch to place holes in sticker sheets and add them to the binder. You can also use baseball card inserts to sort the different tags.
You can also use a coupon file box to sort gift tags by occasion.
An old show box with dividers made of index cards also works to sort gift tags.
