How to Organize Your Home on a Budget- Get your home organized with these inexpensive items. You can even add a pop of color and organize in style for less.

So your home needs some organization, but you can’t afford to spend a fortune on those fancy bins and shelving units to make everything just so. Not a problem! These tips and tricks will show you How to Organize Your Home on a Budget while spending less than what you do at the grocery store!

How to Organize Your Home on a Budget

The dollar store is your best friend! And that is 100% truth! Those cute cloth bins that you see on tv and in home magazines? You can get those at dollar stores in tons of patterns and colors. Of course they aren’t going to be extremely sturdy, but they will work for many items in your home (I would stay away from using them with books and heavy items). Using these on the existing shelving that you have already in your home will not only add a pop of color, but will allow you to organize items in style. They can also be used under beds and tables.

I have even found that using woven baskets from dollar stores in the refrigerator are perfect for cheeses, snacks, fruits and veggies. They keep everything in order but still let the foods breath rather than being locked in a sealed container if they don’t need to be.

Are your drawers a mess? Use silverware and drawer organizers. These items along with the white short plastic bins can also be found at dollar stores! Don’t be afraid to use things like office containers such as pencil canisters, or mason jars/candle holders for smaller things like bobby pins and paper clips.

If you are in need of shelving, try using old crates. You can stack them, vertical and horizontal, and they will hold tons of stuff! Far cheaper than cube shelving and much sturdier! I’ve found them in the past for $5 a piece. For $25 you can have a brand new book shelf that won’t bow or break. You can also spray paint the crates any colors that you would like to fit any color scheme, a designers dream!

If crates aren’t your thing, building a shelving unit can also be cheaper than buying one. Head to your local hardware store after doing some online research and have them cut the pieces to exactly what you need. After that it will be a simple task of attaching the pieces together with screws and you’ll have your very own brand new book shelf!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
