I love looking through scrapbooks. There is something so animating about the way they are put together with all the memories of fun times and special days within a family. If you are a scrapbooker, you know that the cost of the supplies can add up. There are so many ways to save money on this hobby that you can pretty much do it for practically nothing. Here are some ways for you to save on your supplies!
How to Save Money on Scrapbooking Supplies
Use things that are not specifically “for scrapbooking” such as wrapping paper. This is especially fun and memorable if you use wrapping paper from the event you are creating the page for. If you have a page for your baby shower, for instance, pick a favorite wrap from a gift you got and use it as your background. You could also cut some images from the paper and use those as cutouts to decorate the page.
Check out the dollar store. You would be amazed at what they have available in their party section, office supply section and their craft section. You can even find fun cutouts in the school supplies.
Pay attention to sale days at your favorite craft stores. Recently, all scrapbook paper was 50% off at Hobby Lobby. With each piece only being 59 cents each this was a steal at just under 30 cents each! While you are in the craft store, don’t just stick with the scrapbook section. Check out other departments such as the party supplies for more items that can be used in your scrapbook page creations. Make sure to also check out the clearance sections as well for more low price goodies.
Shop off season. If it’s summer, look for discounts on Halloween, Christmas, Easter and other holiday’s paper. These can be as low as 75% off the regular price. A really good time to look is right after a certain holiday.
Sign up for coupons and discounts. If your favorite store has an email newsletter, sign up for it for printable coupons to be sent to you. Micheal’s often sends out 40% off your whole order of anything in the store coupons and this is the time t stock up when you get them! Also, make sure to follow your favorite craft store chains on social media for fan only savings offers!
Don’t forget to check out thrift stores! Many people donate crafty items such as cutouts, scrapbook papers and even books that are brand new to thrift stores and you can find some great deals on them. For an even bigger discount, shop at your favorite thrift store during sales days. One thing to always be on the lookout for is stamps since they tend to be expensive when bought new but thrift stores will often sell them for a quarter.
Join a local scrapbooking class or club and trade supplies with your fellow crafters. If there is not one in your area, consider starting one.
Some supplies are jacked up in price in the crafting section and you could find them cheaper in another section of the store. This is very true for things like tape, glues and so on. Don’t pay the high price just because it is made “for scrapbooking”.
