Ways to Keep Your Car Clean and Clutter-Free- Keeping your car tidy is safer and improves gas mileage. Maintain a clean vehicle with these simple tips.

There are many areas of my life that tend to be taken up by clutter and the car is one of those places that ends up what I like to call ‘a rolling storage container’. I am especially bad about garbage and using my trunk as a place to store things I am too lazy to take inside. This can be a huge problem not only for keeping my life less chaotic, but also for safety and fuel efficiency. Having a lot of clutter in your car can make it too tempting for people to break in to and see what you have. Also, if your trunk is weighed down, you may not be getting the best gas mileage. If you are looking for simple solutions to keep it all under control, here are a few Ways to Keep Your Car Clean and Clutter-Free.

Ways to Keep Your Car Clean and Clutter-Free

Make it a goal to take out any item you put in your car every time. Don’t do like I do and tell yourself that you will get it later. You most likely won’t. You will end up leaving it in there until you discover it months later. If it is important enough to put in your car, it’s important enough to take out and take inside.

Keep your trunk organized with crates of some kind. I like to get those crates you can buy at the store that look like milk crates. I place my car stuff in one (windshield wiper fluid, jumper cables, extra oil etc.) and I keep a second one empty for groceries such as milk, juice, and loose stuff I buy. It not only keeps things organized, but it keeps them upright on the trip back home as well as easy to carry inside. Just don’t forget to bring it back out for the next trip!

Provide a place to throw away garbage. This can be a lidded container that you will find for organization or anything else that will help you control litter in your vehicle. If you have a place to put it all, it is less likely to end up shoved in crevices and on the floor. Also, make a habit out of throwing away all trash each time you stop for gas.

Keep wipes and cleaners easy to access in your car for quick cleanups. I keep wipes of all kinds available in my car for quick cleanups. These include everything from antibacterial wipes to glass cleaner wipes. They make it so easy to clean things when I stop to vacuum my car out and I don’t get stuck buying those expensive ones at the car wash.

Make organizing papers and mail easy. Keep a folder available for you to place mail and other papers you get throughout your day in. Consider keeping 2: one for papers that need to go inside and one for papers that should stay in the car such as insurance paperwork and registration.

Try not to eat in your car as much as possible. Nothing will mess up a car quicker than eating in it. If at all possible, don’t eat in your car. If you do, be prepared to throw away all trash and wipe surfaces down right away to avoid offensive odors.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
