Christmas ham is so delicious that it would be a shame to let one slice go to waste. Use one or more of these 7 Uses For Leftover Ham to get the most bang for your buck, not to mention enjoying that flavor as long as you can!

Whether you made a traditional ham in the oven, a slow cooker ham, or an Instant Pot Ham, you are sure to have leftovers!

7 Uses For Leftover Ham

Christmas ham is the best part of Christmas dinner, but it can also be a bit overwhelming to look at the dinner leftovers and realize you still have half a ham. If that sounds familiar, don’t stress it too much. There are so many ways to use leftover ham that you’ll be able to keep it from going to waste without getting tired of it. These 7 ways to use leftover ham are just a handful of them. If these won’t work for your family, a quick Google search or a visit to Pinterest will help you figure out even more!

Ham steaks – Slice off larger portions of your leftover ham and fry them up as ham steaks. They make a quick and easy breakfast or dinner! Serve eggs with them for breakfast or potatoes and a vegetable for dinner.

Ham and Potatoes – If you’re looking for an easy dinner to use your leftover ham with, dice some up and add it to au gratin potatoes, scalloped potatoes, or Roasted Potatoes and Ham Casserole. The smoky flavor of the ham gives the potatoes a mild smoky taste and makes an amazingly delicious, but simple meal.

Ham and Egg Hash browns – Another great way to use leftover ham is to make breakfast with it! Scramble eggs and fry some hash browns and add diced ham and cheese to the hashbrowns. It’s a filling and delicious breakfast! You can also use ham in place of bacon in a quiche or add it to a frittata for more hearty breakfast options.

Ham Sandwiches – Make these Ham and Swiss Sliders, a Monte Cristo sandwich, or a Ham and Cheese Wrap. They’re delicious and a great way to use leftover ham!

Use the Ham Bone to Make Soups – If your ham had a bone, you’ll want to save it for this recipe! You’ll also want to dice or shred some of your leftover ham to add to the soup. You can make Split Pea Soup or Bean Soup with Ham easily in a Crock Pot.

Pizza Toppings – The next time you’re having homemade pizza night, make a Hawaiian pizza with leftover ham and pineapple.

Salad Toppings – a big Chef’s salad with ham and shredded cheese on top makes a great tasting and healthy lunch. Cut your ham into slices and then cut your slices into strips or dices to top your salads with them. Top with your favorite salad dressing and lunch is done!

Freezer cooking – Like turkey, ham can be frozen again once it is cooked. Cut into dices, strips or slices and freeze it in freezer bags. The next time you’re needing ham for a recipe, you’ll only need to pull it out of the freezer. You can find a variety of recipes using ham in my cookbook Prep-Ahead Meals from Scratch.

Yum! There may only be 7 ways to use leftover ham on this list, but each one is delicious! This year, when you buy your Christmas ham, go ahead and opt for the larger one. You’ll be able to eat on it for a week or more and save money on your groceries when you do.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
