With the arrival of fall comes apple season! These Apple Core Chocolate Covered Oreos are a fun way to jazz up an Oreo cookie. They are an easy treat to make for parties and special events.
I might be addicted to making treats with Oreos. They are so easy to do – no baking required. And with a little bit of icing, you can make cute designs for every holiday. These Apple Core Oreos are perfect for fall gatherings, back-to-school snacks, or harvest parties.
Apple Core Chocolate Covered Oreos Recipe
Ingredients:
- 12 Double Stuf Oreos
- 1 tablespoon solid shortening
- 1 1/2 cups Wilton red chocolate candy melts
- 1 white cookie icing pouch
- 1 black decorator icing tube
- 6 caramels, unwrapped
- 6 green M&M’s (I used mint flavored because the green is darker in color and the pieces are larger but regular ones would work as well.)
Supplies Needed:
- 2 Oreo cookie molds
Directions:
1. Line a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper. Set aside.
2. Melt the shortening in a double boiler. Add the red chocolate melts and stir occasionally until melted. Once melted, you might find it easier to transfer the melted chocolate into a smaller bowl to make it easier to handle.
3. Add 2 tablespoons of the melted chocolate to each mold.
4. Place an Oreo cookie on top of the melted chocolate.
5. Cover each cookie by spooning additional chocolate on top.
6. Chill for one hour.
7. Once chilled, pop the cookies out of their mold and place on the baking sheet.
8. Cut each caramel piece in half and bend slightly like an apple stem.

9. Cover one end of each caramel stem with cookie icing and place on the top of each “apple”. Hold in place for 10 seconds and place back on cookie sheet for 10 minutes to harden.
10. Cut each M&M candy in half. Apply cookie icing to the bottom of each piece and place on top of each “apple” to the right of each stem. Hold in place for 10 seconds and then gently place back on the baking sheet for about 15 minutes to harden.

11. Squeeze cookie icing onto the front of each cookie to resemble the inside of an apple. Be sure to leave a small red border along the diameter.
12. Using the black gel tube, pipe 3-4 apple seeds on top of the white cookie icing.
13. Let them sit until the icing hardens.
