This easy Chicken Marsala Crescent Ring recipe is pure comfort food! It makes a delicious dinner recipe or a hearty appetizer.
I never realized how much my family liked Chicken Marsala until I created the Easiest Chicken Marsala Recipe EVER! They kept requesting it each time I made a menu plan. Even though it is delicious, cooking the same thing over and over again is not a lot of fun for a recipe developer.
To satisfy my family’s craving for Chicken Marsala and my need to create new recipes, I started using the flavors in Chicken Marsala to create other delicious dishes like my Chicken Marsala Casserole and the Chicken Marsala Pizza which is in my cookbook, Prep-Ahead Meals from Scratch.
After a batch cooking session, I noticed that I had leftover cooked chicken and leftover mushrooms, but not enough of either to make the Chicken Marsala Pizza in my cookbook. My husband loved my Jalapeno Popper Crescent Ring recipe and asked if I had enough chicken and mushrooms to create a Chicken Marsala Crescent Ring and a new recipe was born.
This unique Chicken Marsala recipe can serve as the main dish for dinner or as a hearty appetizer recipe. Don’t let the long list of directions intimidate you; it really is easy to make. You can see how simple it is to make by watching this video:

Chicken Marsala Crescent Ring Recipe
Prep-Ahead Tip: You can make the chicken marsala mixture a day or two in advance and then put it inside the crescent ring on the day you wish to make the Chicken Marsala Crescent Ring recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup Marsala wine or dry sherry
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
- dash teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup cooked chicken, diced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- 2 packages of crescent roll refrigerated dough
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a large baking sheet.
- Melt the butter in a skillet over a medium flame.
- Use a whisk to combine the cornstarch with the melted butter.
- Slowly add Marsala wine to the butter mixture, whisking the entire time.
- Slowly add the milk. Stir well.
- Add the cooked diced chicken and mushrooms. Stir to coat.
- Sprinkle the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over the chicken marsala mixture. Stir to incorporate.
- Increase the heat to medium-high. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
- Stir the green onions into the chicken marsala mixture. Set aside.
- Separate 1 can of crescent roll dough into 4 rectangles. On a large greased pizza pan, arrange the rectangles perpendicular to each other to form a cross. Corners of one side should touch while leaving a square space in the center.
- Separate the dough from the second can of crescent roll dough into 4 more rectangles. Arrange the rectangles into an “X” that overlaps the cross, leaving an open circle in the center.
- Spoon the chicken marsala mixture around the center of dough. Shape the mixture into a ring leaving about ½ inch of dough in the center.
- Pull the overhanging dough from the outer edge towards the center and over the filling. Tuck and pinch the dough under the middle close the ring. Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the ring.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 22 minutes or until golden brown and thoroughly heated. Remove the crescent ring from the pizza pan to serving platter or cutting board.
- Cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

This looks delicious. But we can’t buy crescent roll dough here. Do you have any ideas about a different dough I could use eg would shortbread work?
Alea Milham says
I do not think that shortbread would work. Pizza dough would work.
