Today I shared my recipe for my Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole which is a delicious way to repurpose leftover mashed potatoes. It is also a great way to salvage your mashed potatoes if you accidentally made them too runny. Since I have potatoes on my mind, I thought I would share a few more mashed potato tips and a few recipes.

The easiest way I have discovered to make perfectly smooth, lump-free mashed potatoes is to use a ricer: Cooking Tip - how to make perfect, lump-free mashed potatoes every single time! You just spoon the cooked potatoes into the potato ricer and squeeze. Add your butter, milk, and seasonings and stir together with a spoon. Voila, the creamiest mashed potatoes ever!

Putting all of the dishes on the buffet while still hot can be a little tricky on Thanksgiving. I make it a little easier by making my mashed potatoes in advance and then keep them warm in a Slow Cooker. One less thing to worry about while trying to carve the turkey!

You can also make Twice Baked Potatoes the day before and then all you have to do is reheat them before serving them.

At the holidays we have people around our table with all types of food allergies and special needs. Here are a few dairy-free mashed potato recipes:

  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes
  • Mashed Red Potatoes
  • Purple Mashed Potatoes

Is someone on your guest list following a low-carb diet? Here is a quick and easy mashed cauliflower recipe.

Recipes for using up Leftover Mashed Potatoes:

  • Pierogi Casserole
  • Shepherd’s Pie
  • Corned Beef and Cabbage Casserole
  • Loaded Mash Potato Casserole

a ricer- now that is a fantastic idea. I always just use a masher but sometimes they can be too lumpy so this is great!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
