Check Your Local Library for Summer Reading Programs

During summer vacation, it is very easy for young learners to become bored and suffer the dreaded brain drain.  If we want to save our sanity during the summer months, we can work on learning activities that stimulate their mind.  We can also explore our local library and the Summer Reading Programs where readers can earn prizes and free books.

Our local library is offering a free reading program for several different age groups:

Listeners ages 0-5
Kids ages 6-11
Teens ages 12-17
Adults 18+

Washoe County Library System  ~ 2016 Summer Reading Program

June 1st through August 31st

1. Sign up the whole family for Washoe County Library’s 2016 Summer Reading Program on line at Ready, Set, Read!  or in person.
2. Visit your favorite library again and again this summer. Ask your librarian for suggestions of great books to read yourself or to your young child.
3. Set a goal of reading 20 minutes every day. For very young children and struggling readers, that can be spread out through the day.
4. Use the online games and track your reading to unlock cool new game levels, activities, free books, and more!
5. Make reading fun all summer long!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
