Weather, harsh chemicals, and even day to day use can wreak havoc on your skin. Keep it looking healthy and beautiful with our 5 Best DIY Skin Care Tips.

Skin care items such as cosmetics and beauty products contain dozens of harmful chemicals, though marketed towards caring for your skin, damage your skin further. Our 5 Best DIY Skin Care Tips are sure to keep your skin looking and feeling its best!

5 Best DIY Skin Care Tips

Take Care of Your Face with Honey

When washing your face, you want to open your pores with warm water to get all the makeup, dirt, and dead skin cells out of your pores. Hold your face over a bowl of steaming water for 5-minutes to open your pores. Rub warm honey on your face to draw out oils, debris, and makeup from your pores. Rinse your face with cool water to close your pores and prevent new dirt and debris from getting in.  This is one of my favorite skin care tips since it exfoliates and helps my skin smell amazing in the process.

Soften Your Hands with Milk

Whether you do tough work with your hands or your hands are just dry from the changes of the weather, milk is a perfect way to soften them. Simply heat up 2 to 3 cups of milk in the microwave and let your hands soak for 5 to 10 minutes.  Milk baths are another great option for nourishing your entire body.  Learn how to make a homemade milk bath if you haven’t before.  You can easily add a packet of dry milk powder to your warm bath for full body skin care benefits.

Use Coconut Oil for Moisture

Your cuticles help your nails grow strong and beautiful. When they are dry, cracked, or undernourished, the skin around your nails affects your growth. Moisturize your cuticles with coconut oil. Coconut oil is also great all over moisturizer. After you take a bath, instead of using lotion to moisturize your body, use coconut oil and massage it in for silky smooth skin.  Most people will mention coconut oil in their list of top skin care tips with the amazing moisturizing it offers.

Treat Calloused Feet with Baking Soda

Your feet do a lot of work which means calluses are a normal part of life. However, you can help soften your feet with a baking soda paste. Simply mix water with baking soda until you get a thick paste. Massage it onto your feet and rinse to remove dry skin cells and soften calluses.  This is one of my all time favorite DIY skin are tips for summer months especially.  It’s so much easier to give yourself an at-home pedicure and step out in sandals without callouses on your feet.

Exfoliate with Sugar

Mix brown sugar with water until it disintegrates. Sugar is a natural exfoliant and will help get rid of dead skins cells and soften your skin. Use the mixture when you take a bath to exfoliate and clean your whole body.  You can even make homemade sugar scrubs to use all over your body for exfoliating.

Keeping your skin beautiful and healthy is as simple as looking in your cupboards. What other DIY skin care tips do you have? Share your favorite tips in the comments below!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
