How to Make Dry Shampoo - You can save money on dry shampoo by making your own with this recipe using safe ingredients you already have in your home.

Why Dry Shampoo?

What’s the point of using dry shampoo? Check out these awesome benefits:

Wash less. Don’t worry about greasy-looking hair if you don’t shampoo every day! The cornstarch in your dry shampoo will soak up the oil and dirt from your hair, leaving it looking ahhhhmazing!

Save time. By washing your hair less, you’re saving tons of time!

Volumize. Without buying into expensive gimmicks and products, you can volumize your hair in a jiffy with dry shampoo! Keep it on hand for styling.

It’s organic. No aluminum and parabens – which means your hair will be thanking you.

Why DIY?

Purchasing commercial dry shampoos can get expensive – fast. Plus, they can also contain ingredients that have no place in your hair! Making your own DIY Dry Shampoo will save you money, and is much better for your beautiful locks.

How to Make Dry Shampoo

DIY Dry Shampoo Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Arrowroot (or cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for dark hair)

It’s only two (or three) ingredients! Just mix them together. It’s that simple!

Store your dry shampoo in a small jar, and apply it to the roots of your hair with an old makeup brush. You don’t have to use a makeup brush, but I like to because then I don’t have to work as hard to comb it through my hair when I style it.

Dry Shampoo Tips & Tricks:

Scent your dry shampoo with dried lavender or rose petals. Keep the mix in a sealed-up jar for at least a week to get the scent mixed well.

You can also make your hair smell nice by filling a spritz bottle with water, and adding a few drops of essential oil. After you’ve used your dry shampoo, spritz your hair with the essential oil mixture.

Try wheat flour as a volumizer by adding it to your dry shampoo (or replacing the arrowroot with the flour).

Not 100% sold on dry shampoo? Try this Coconut Milk Shampoo or this Lavender- Rosemary Shampoo.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
