If you are thinking about learning to meditate, there is no time like the present. Here are 5 reasons meditation might change your life.

Meditation is one of the best things you can do to control stress and regulate thoughts and emotions. Here are 5 reasons meditation might change your life.

When many people think of meditating, they think of it as something that only certain folks can do or for certain religious practices. The truth is, meditation is not exclusive to anyone. Any person can meditate no matter what your age or how busy your life is or even what your spiritual beliefs are. Another common misconception about meditation is that you need to empty your mind. Meditation is about focusing on something, such as your breath, body sensations, or sounds, and coming back to that focus whenever your mind wanders. You do not have to empty your mind. Meditation has some amazing benefits and can be a great tool for everyone to have on hand. The great thing about meditation is you can often do it just about anywhere, too, once you get the technique down. Here are 5 reasons meditation might change your life.

It can help you learn to breathe through stress – One of the most benefits of meditation is it can help you manage stress and anxiety. Meditating trains you to quiet your mind and breathe through times where you feel overwhelmed. If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, this tool can be very helpful in managing your condition and may make what you didn’t think possible a reality. Here is a good article on breathing for meditation that you can do just about anywhere right now.

It can help you make goals – One of the ways I use my meditation time is to think about goals I have for that day or week (try to work in small time periods for ease of thought) and how I will achieve them. This allows me to etch them into my mind and consciously and subconsciously work towards them. It also gives me a place to build myself up for them and give myself positive affirmations towards them.

It can help you manage pain – I suffer from a chronic pain condition and I have found benefits from meditation. One is that it gives me something to focus on other than the pain. This actually has a lasting effect. I think it’s because I am able to calm my breathing and blood pressure which leads to lower pain and more relaxed state for my muscles and body.

It can help you regulate your emotions – I regularly meditate in emotional situations. I have found that stopping to do it for just 5 minutes in these moments has allowed me to react better and also learn some self-control and inner calmness. This has translated into more emotional regulation in other situations.

It can help you with memory and cognitive thought processes – Meditation helps you learn to concentrate better and this, in turn, leads to better memory. Additionally, you will find that it can give you more time to form better thoughts about situations and make better decisions.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
