These tips on how to avoid negativity will help you feel happier throughout the day.

With all the negativity around us, it can be hard to stay positive throughout the day. Here are some tips on how to avoid negativity in your daily life.

When in order to find happiness in our daily life, we need to eliminate the negativity that we are experiencing. It is incredibly hard to find a place of peace when you are feeling overwhelmed by negative things, people, and attitudes. These days negative messages seem harder and harder to avoid, but it is possible if you follow these tips for how to avoid negativity in your daily life.

How to Avoid Negativity in Your Daily Life

Limit the news – It is hard to be happy and positive when all we read all day is arguments online (where lots of miserable people troll for them) or sensational news. While staying informed is important, you do not need a constant stream of negative messages all day. Consider setting aside a short amount of time to catch up on the news. If you like to leave the news on for background noise, consider switching to radio shows or podcasts with a more positive tone.

Limit social media – Social media can have a large impact on our moods and happiness. Try to limit the amount of time you spend on social media each day too. If you can’t avoid it, try leaving groups that are negative and add pages that are positive so you see them in your news feed. You can also hide family and friends from seeing your status updates if they tend to leave negative comments. This way, you can still keep up with what they’re doing without allowing their negative attitudes to drag you down.

Find a way to do something positive as often as possible – I know it’s hard to add one more thing to your already busy schedule, but if you can, add in something positive. Try volunteering to gain a new perspective and maybe a little bit of gratitude. This can really help bust away the negativity! If you just don’t have time to do volunteer projects, consider doing small, random acts of kindness instead on a regular basis. Maybe pick a day of the week to be your “random act of kindness day”.

Forgive as often as you can – Holding a grudge means holding onto negativity and in reality, holding a grudge harms us more than the person we are angry at. It’s almost like carrying around a list of things to be negative about and it’s not good for our soul. Instead of hanging on to grudges, try to forgive people more often. You don’t have to forget what they did and open yourself up to being hurt again, but forgive them and move on if at all possible.

Try to live in the moment – Anxiety can bring negativity into our lives. One way to fight anxious feelings is to live more in the moment. When we worry too much about the future or even what happened in the past, we feel anxious. Help banish both by trying to be more in the moment and enjoy each day or moment as it comes. This can be a hard thing to do and takes practice to train your mind the be quieter, but it starts with just enjoying simple things like the sound of your children laughing outside or how beautiful a tree is in your yard.

Get some real, honest to goodness exercise daily – There’s nothing like a release of happy endorphins in order to banish negativity! Try to shoot for at least a good 30 minutes of sweat-inducing exercise a day in order to get your daily dose of happy. Over time, it will help you stay more positive as well.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
