These 6 tips on starting a side hustle will help you get your part-time venture off to a running start!

Looking to create a side-hustle? These 6 tips on starting a side hustle will help you get your part-time venture off to a running start!

Maybe you want to go on a trip. Christmas is coming and you need a short-term way to save some cash for it. An unexpected expense came up or you want to start an emergency savings fund. Maybe you want to set up a second income source to meet some long-term financial goals. These are all reasons people start a side hustle. If you are trying to build a second income source, it is important that you get off to a good start. Here are 6 tips on starting a side hustle to help you get the most from your time and efforts.

6 Tips on Starting a Side Hustle

Find a need and fill it – One of the common traits of any successful business is to find a need and fill it. Before you jump in with a great side hustle idea, make sure you take an honest look at what needs are out there in your community and whether your idea can fill one. If there is not a need for your side hustle, you won’t find much success no matter how devoted you are.

Devote time to it every day – Be willing to devote time to developing your side hustle every day. Schedule a time block for it if possible. It doesn’t even have to be several hours, but you need to work on it regularly. Doing so will help you stay focused and invested in it.

Be flexible in your ideas as it develops – When you are developing your business idea, it is important to remain flexible as you figure out what works.  That way, you can make sure to not invest too much energy into something that isn’t both realistic and profitable.

Don’t invest money or time without researching – This is one of the biggest mistakes many people make when coming up with a side hustle. Make sure you do research before investing a single dollar into your side business. You won’t make money if all you do is waste it. This is especially true if you are thinking of joining any at-home direct sales companies. Many of these can be excellent side hustles but before you join, you should research exactly how much time people need to invest in the company before making a profit. The point of a side hustle is to make money part-time, not to create another full-time gig for yourself.

Spread the word at the right time – It’s easy to get excited about your new side hustle, but don’t spill the beans to your network too soon. You could end up overwhelmed with business before you have a solid plan in place and it could be the downfall of your business. Plus, you should not show your idea off until it’s ready to launch so people don’t lose interest waiting for it.

Make sure it’s something you enjoy or can be passionate about – A side hustle doesn’t have to be just another income source. It can be an outlet for your passions that you may not get from your day job. For example, if you love to teach, you could try private tutoring. If you love crafting, you could sell your work. If you can find a side hustle that lines up with your passions, you will be more enthusiastic about devoting your time to it.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
