Giving and receiving homemade gifts can be a wonderful experience. Take a look at these 7 Reasons to Give Homemade Gifts.

7 Reasons to Give Homemade Gifts

If you love gift giving, homemade gifts are a wonderful way to go. You don’t have to be super crafty, or even have a bevy of supplies at your disposal to make homemade gifts. All you need is to let yourself get creative and have fun. Take a look below at 7 reasons to give homemade gifts, so you can get a different perspective on your gift giving!

1. They are more personal.
When you give a homemade gift, it shows that thought went into the gift. You are creating something especially for the recipient that was created with love and thought, making it a more personal experience.

2. Homemade gifts are a frugal way to give.
When you make your own gifts, you can save a great deal of money. Crafting supplies tend to be inexpensive, or you can use items you already have on hand. Homemade gifts are a great way to give while still staying on budget.

3. It is wonderful to support artists.
Perhaps you aren’t feeling crafty, but know someone who is. When you buy a handmade gift for someone, you are supporting a local artist who works very hard at perfecting their skill! You will find it feels great to keep money in your community as well.

4. Homemade gifts inspire others.
Has anyone ever made you a handmade gift? If so, you might have been inspired to do the same for others. A handmade gift can really inspire someone to create something crafty and personal for others.

5. They are unique.
Anyone can go grab an item off a shelf at a local retail store. But when you give handmade gifts, you are giving one of a kind presents. Handmade gifts are unique and sure to appeal to the hard to please or person who seems to have it all.

6. Homemade gifts can be personalized.
Whether gifting a frame or a holiday ornament, when giving homemade you can easily personalize the gifts you give. You can make the gift in the person’s favorite color, scent, or even include their monogram on it.

7. They are keepsakes.
People tend to be more sentimental about homemade gifts. While they might donate the pair of gloves from Target in a few years, they are more likely to hold onto the knit pair you crafted for them. Handmade gifts make wonderful keepsakes.

Gifting (and receiving) homemade gifts can be a wonderful experience. This holiday season, why not try giving handmade gifts yourself?

I love giving homemade gifts, but it does take a bit more planning. One of my favorite homemade gifts are consumables – things like homemade bath salts, baked goodies, or soup mixes in a jar, because I know they’ll get used and won’t clutter up people’s homes.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
