Actually not true at all. Retail ALWAYS has the season out before the actual season starts. I work in retail and have for over 10 years in many different stores. Right now, our fall items are on clearance and Christmas has taken over. This has been happening for over a month. In clothing stores, if they have summer clothes left, they are going to be VERY cheap, because they should have been gone months ago. I was buying summer clearance in July.

Yes, retail is at least half a season ahead. Summer clear starts right after 4th of July. Fall is usually on sale now.
Christmas should be coming out anytime.
Reason is to sell before the new season starts. It’s to have as little clearance as possible, not have leftovers longer than the season.
Once seasons start to change we, as consumers, don’t necessarily want to buy them. Oh. We think we won’t be able to use til next year.
        So sales start early.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
