5 Benefits of Being an Early Riser

Are you an early riser?  Going to bed early seems to be hard these days. The days are long and the nights are so peaceful and quiet, it’s hard to get motivated to go to sleep early.  This is especially true if you are juggling kids at home during the day and feel like your only productive hours are after they are in bed for the night. However, there are many benefits of being an early riser. You may find getting up early is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

There are lots of benefits of being an early riser! Getting up an hour or two earlier can improve your whole day and free up time for things you enjoy.

5 Benefits of Being an Early Riser

It’s hard to become an early riser, but not impossible. These benefits of being an early riser will hopefully motivate you to set that alarm clock a bit earlier and begin greeting the world at an earlier hour each day.

#1. You’re well rested.

One major reason to be an early riser is that you actually get plenty of rest. When you are well rested, you can think better and produce better work. When you stay up late, your mind is overworked and overtired and the things you say and do may not make much sense.

#2. More time in your day.

Another reason to be an early riser is that you actually have more time in your day. Waking up at 5 AM or 6 AM can help you get lots accomplished, but you are also not going to be sleeping the day away. Who couldn’t use more time in their day? If you’re struggling with not having enough “time”, consider making the most of your day by waking up earlier. This is especially important when you have errands that have to be done during business hours.

#3. More time to yourself.

If you’re a mom or dad and have kids running around, it can feel as though you’re never alone. Something you should know about being an early riser is that you actually get more time to yourself. Many people, especially parents, need more time to themselves, and this is a perfect solution.

#4. Time to think.

When you sleep in as late as possible, you don’t have time to think and process your day before it starts. Instead of jumping out of bed and getting on with your day, try waking up early. When you wake up early, you have time to think and process everything that will be happening that day. When your brain has more time to think, you’re less likely to get overwhelmed and stressed during the day.

I love taking the time to write my to-do list down in a journal.  Bullet journals are super popular these days and are a great way to do this.  You can also use a classic day planner to help get focused on the day and week ahead.

#5. You have time for something you love.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about trying meditation, yoga, working out, or just eating breakfast. Waking up early is the perfect opportunity for this. Being an early riser makes sense because you have time to do something that you love. When the kids and family are pulling you a certain way all day, you can still look forward to that time period in the morning when it’s “just you” doing something you love.

Do you now understand why being an early riser makes sense? I’d love to hear why you’re an early riser or at least why you are considering it.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
