Well once you see how we turned an old TV tray into a stylish and practical side table, you will never look at them the same again. Take a look at how to make your own lace stenciled TV tray like we did. It is the perfect way to turn that old TV tray into something fun and fresh!
DIY Lace Stenciled TV Tray
Supplies needed:
- Old TV tray (metal or wood works for this craft)
- Doilies ($1 each at Michael’s Craft Store or they can be found at thrift and vintage shops)
- Spray paint in your choice of color
- Sand paper (optional)
Here is the before of the table we used for this project. It was a mere $2 at our local thrift store.
For the paint we chose a paint and primer spray paint in one. Grey was perfect for our decor. The doilies as mentioned were $1 each at our local craft store. Only use doilies you are willing to get paint on. After this project, they will be coated!
Directions:
Before you begin, sand your table gently is needed. This will remove varnish, dust, and dirt and help he paint adhere well. Then, place the doilies on the table top where you place. We set ours side by side. No need to glue them, just set them down. Once they are in place, apply your spray paint. Hold the can a good 6-8 inches away so your doilies don’t get blown out of place. Apply two coats of paint.
Once your paint is dry, gently peel back the doilies. You will notice the cool lace pattern that has been made in the table, allowing the natural wood to show through the paint.
Isn’t that beautiful? You can finish with a clear coat if you wish. This is recommended if you plan on placing drinks on the table.
Place your lace stenciled TV tray next to your chair or even bedside. It is the perfect little table for a vase, clock, or even small lamp.
Gather your supplies and give this easy upcycle a try! It is a great way to turn a boring and outdated TV tray into a pretty and practical piece of furniture.
