Frugal Summer Date Ideas - Date night ideas you can enjoy even if you are on a budget

If I’m being honest, summer isn’t always my favorite time of year. The temperatures can easily reaching 100 degrees and sometimes even much higher. Getting outdoors and enjoying a date night with my husband isn’t always the best option. We’ve learned that we have to get creative with our frugal summer date ideas. Trying to balance saving money and keeping cool isn’t always the easiest task.

Frugal Summer Date Ideas

Get Cooking – Cooking at home isn’t always fun since it leaves you with a big mess to clean up. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a wonderful date night in the kitchen. It has long been said that cooking with your partner is sensual and romantic, not to mention it requires team work and communication.

Look up cooking classes in your local area and enjoy learning some new skills together. Adult schools, kitchen supply stores and local culinary schools all usually offer frugal cooking classes. This is a fun frugal summer date night that you will both enjoy.

Concert in the Park – Movies and concerts in the park are growing in popularity all across the United States. More times than not these are free events open to the community. My husband and I love getting out and enjoying live music under the stars! This date is not only frugal but the heat is usually bearable by nightfall.

Your local newspaper or chamber of commerce will usually list any free events, so make sure to check often. You might be surprised at how many free events are offered in your area.

Watch a Matinee Movie – Most of us enjoy a good movie and what better way to save money and stay cool during the summer than to see a mid-day matinee movie. You can keep this date frugal by skipping out on the over priced popcorn, soda and other snacks. Make sure to check with your local movie theatre on what time of day is considered the discounted rate, also known as a matinee time.

Indoor Hiking – Going on a hike is a great way to enjoy a frugal date. The problem is during the summer months it can get a little too hot to hike outside. On those hot summer days, skip the outdoor hiking and head to an indoor fitness center. Enjoy some indoor rock climbing, indoor swimming or other fitness activities. If staying active is something you and your spouse enjoy doing, this is a great option without dealing with the summer heat.

Be a Kid Again – Have you ever sat there and wished you could relive your childhood? I think it’s something we have all done at one time or another. Enjoy a frugal summer date night with your spouse by reliving your childhood. You can do this in a variety of different ways. Stay indoors eating your favorite childhood foods and watching old cartoons. You can also take a trip to a local arcade and challenge each other to a game of Pac Man. The options are truly endless, the goal is to spend some quality time with your honey while having a great time!

Some areas have expansive caves to explore also. I don’t do this because I’m claustrophobic but for some who aren’t it would be a great way to stay cool!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
