5 Frugal Valentine's Day Date Ideas - Date Night alternatives to pricey restaurants, so you can enjoy a Valentine's Day date even if you are on a budget.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and you might have already started thinking about ways to show that special someone you love them. Flowers, chocolates and other gifts are nice, but nothing compares to some good old-fashion quality time. Valentine’s Day dates can be over-rated at times. You hear about couples going out to fancy and very over-priced restaurants and that’s great if you’re into that sort of thing. Personally, I think a quality date with my husband beats an over-priced steak any day of the week. I’ve been thinking a lot about Valentine’s Day and I’ve come up with several frugal Valentine’s date ideas.

Frugal Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

Day on the water –  Whether you are on the warm west coast or on the frigidly cold east coast, you can still enjoy some time by the water. Nothing beats sitting on a blanket with your significant other while listening to the sound of the waves crashing. You can even make a complete date out of this activity and pack a picnic. For some extra romance try having a breakfast at sunrise or dinner at sunset.

Skip dinner – If you have ever been out to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day then you know how extremely chaotic it can get. For one the prices are usually jacked up and the wait for a table can easily exceed an hour or longer. If you are determined to get out of the house on Valentine’s Day, consider going out for dessert. Stop by your local ice cream shop and enjoy some good conversation over a yummy dessert. Opting for dessert instead of dinner is a frugal Valentine”s Day idea that will save you a lot of money!

Go star-gazing – If you live in any populated area then you probably don’t get the chance to fully see the stars. Spend some time researching areas in your location that are great for star-gazing. Take a drive with your sweetie, park the car, lay a blanket out and spend a few hours talking, sipping wine and staring at the stars. You might be surprised what a non-stressful night can do to refresh your relationship.

Enjoy some music – Maybe you’re a couple that doesn’t like all of the over the top romance that comes along with Valentine’s Day, if so, you’re not alone. There are a lot of couples that don’t enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day for a number of reasons. If you fall into this category you might try going out and enjoying some live music. Is your favorite band playing in concert or maybe a local bar has a great musician performing. Save some money and skip the over-priced Valentine Day activities by enjoying some great music and dancing in the arms of the person you love.

Recreate your first date –  Do you remember the first date you shared with your spouse? If so why not try recreating it for Valentine’s Day? Recreating your first date brings in a different level of romance and helps the two of you remember all the reasons you originally fell in love with each other.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
