How to Make Homemade Furniture Polish - Try this homemade furniture polish, made with just 4 ingredients, to condition your wood without harmful chemicals.

While I love the shine and protection that furniture polish gives my wood, I can live without all the dangerous chemicals they pack into it. I love making my own home and body products with essential oils and and few other items on hand. First of all I feel safer having them around my family and pets, and secondly, I can customize the scents. I love a good herbal smell throughout my home so lemon and basil are my perfect combination.

How to Make Homemade Furniture Polish

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 3 tsp. beeswax granules
  • 5 drops lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops basil essential oil

Directions:

I recommend you buy your beeswax in granules. Otherwise if you buy a block of it, you will need to grate it so that it melts better with your other ingredients. If you have it in block form, simply use a microplane to grate enough.

Combine coconut oil and beeswax in a small jar that has a tight fitting lid.

Place in saucepan over medium heat, add 2 inches of water and heat until melted.

Stir and remove from heat, allow to cool until comfortable to the touch.

Add lemon juice and essential oils.

Finish cooling to set your furniture polish which will remain slightly soft.

Directions for use:

Use a soft, absorbent cloth to rub furniture polish into wood

Add whatever essential oils you like to create an aromatic furniture polish: orange, lavender, lemongrass, grapefruit, lemon, or basil.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
