One of the things I enjoy most about summer is the free outdoor concerts. Here are tips for making the most of free concerts in the park.

Making the Most of Free Concerts in the Park - Free concerts are a great frugal summer activity. Here are some tips to make it an even better experience.

Everyone loves something free and concerts in the park are no exception. During the summer, these concerts are a wonderful way to spend time with family, enjoy some great talent, and lounge in the great outdoors all at the same time.

Making the Most of Free Concerts in the Park

Although concerts in the park are great fun, they do require that you prepare ahead of time to get the most out of them. Here are some tips to make sure you are ready for a great time.

Call ahead about the rules

Nothing stinks worse than bringing a ton of things to the concert and discovering that they are not allowed. Then you have to go back to your car and lose your seat, at the very least. Some common items that are not always available are glass bottles, certain types of drink, and lawn chairs. A quick phone call to the park department or an online search will save you a ton of hassles on concert day.

Turn it into a special date

If you are going to enjoy a free concert, why not make it a special date with someone you care about? Put out a blanket, bring along a snack or two and perhaps a bottle of your favorite wine if it is allowed. Have a great time spending time together!

Get there early

When it comes to free concerts, the early bird gets the worm. If you show up late, you can almost be assured you will not be able to get good seats. Coming early will get you the best spots and help you to get the most out of the concert. Sitting up front is particularly special when you are watching your favorite band! Also, make sure you bring along something to do while you wait. Arriving early means you will have some extra time on your hands. Frisbees, cards, tablets or even laptops are a good choice to pass the time.

Bring cash

You will want to bring a little cash in most of these situations because plastic may not be taken and those who do accept plastic, may have connection problems. Vendors often stick to cash at these outdoor events and particularly so for the food. Bring along a bit of cash so that you are prepared either way. It would be horrible to go to a free concert and love the band, but be unable to buy their CD at the souvenir stand.

Pack outdoor essentials

Nothing can ruin an outdoor concert event like bugs without bug spray. Or sun without sunscreen and sunglasses. Or a sweatshirt of  blanket when it is chilly. Make sure you bring along the various things you might need throughout the course of the concert. Having what you need will make the concert the primary focus…exactly as it should be.

Concerts in the park are a wonderful way to have a great, economical time while enjoying several things at once. Prepare ahead of time and make sure you bring the things you need, and you will have the time of your life!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
