How to Update a Room with New Hardware- Changing out the hardware in a room is easy and makes a big visual impact. These useful tips will get you started.

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to update your space? New hardware may be the key. Many people don’t consider new hardware when updating a space, but the truth is it can be a simple as well as budget friendly way to make some big changes. Take a look below at How to Update a Room with New Hardware so you can change the look of your space for less.

How to Update a Room with New Hardware

1. Evaluate your hardware needs.
Take a look at your space and see where exactly your hardware needs are. Do you need new door handles? Drawer pulls? Fan pulls? Light switch plates? Door stops? You will be surprised at how many hardware pieces any one room contains. Make a note of all the pieces in one room and which ones you wish to change out. This will help you when it comes time to shop.

2. Buy new, or repurpose?
Once you decide which pieces you wish to swap out, you will need to decide if you wish to buy new or repurpose the pieces you have. Buying new can cost you anywhere from $1-$25 per piece. Repurposing your old hardware can cost you just a few dollars for a can of Rustoleum paint. By answering this question, you can best figure out your budget and what you want to spend on this project.

Should you decide to repurpose, all you need is some Rustoleum paint that is suitable for metal. You can choose metallic finishes, faux finishes, even bright colors. Remove the hardware, place it on some newspaper, and apply two coats of the spray in an even and slow fashion. Once dry, you are ready to go!

3. Know your measurements.
Nothing is more frustrating than buying the wrong hardware. Be sure you measure your current hardware or even take samples of it to the store with you when buying new. This way you can be sure you are picking hardware that will fit the item/space. It might be helpful if you keep a tape measure with you as well so you can measure potential pieces as you come across them.

4. Don’t toss those old pieces.
Don’t toss those old hardware pieces just yet. You can always use them on other DIY projects or donate them to your local Habitat for Humanity Resale Store. Remember you can always repurpose them as mentioned in step 2, so even if they are no longer in style they still have some potential.

You will be amazed at how simple it can be to change out the hardware in the room and what a visual impact it can make. Changing out hardware in a room is a simple weekend project, and can be done room by room so you don’t get overwhelmed. So give these tips a try and change out the hardware in your space. You will be enjoying a fresh and updated look in no time.

I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
