How to Use Dill Oil- Dill oil has many uses in the kitchen and can help with common ailments. Learn more about dill oil as well as how to make your own.
If you love the flavor of dill, there is no doubt that you will enjoy the flavor of dill oil! Perfect for use in the kitchen, dill oil can add a flavorful layer to many of your favorite dishes. Outside of the kitchen, dill essential oil can be used to help with common ailments. Making your own dill oil can be easy, and the end result is a new oil that you will be anxious to use. Take a peek below at How to Use Dill Oil throughout the kitchen and home.

How to Make Dill Oil

To begin, let’s talk about how to make your own dill oil. I should warn you that making dill oil can be a lengthy process that requires patience, but making your own is quite cost effective. To make your own dill oil, you will need to mix 1/2 cup of dill leaves with 2 cups of basic olive oil. Mix the two ingredients together, taking care to press and crush the leaves to release the oils. Place the mixture in an air tight jar and store on a counter top for two weeks. See? Patience is required. This is the time the oil needs to mix and meld and get the adequate flavor.

Once your dill oil has sat for two weeks, you can strain it through a piece of cheesecloth to clean the oil. Store your dill oil in an airtight jar. It is now ready to be enjoyed! Don’t have that kind of time? Then don’t worry. You can find dill oil at online retailers and at specialty food stores.

How to Use Dill Oil

Now that you have either bought dill essential oil or made your own dill oil, let’s talk about the great ways to use it. Dill oil, as you can imagine, has a salty dill flavor that is quite fresh. It is perfect when used in marinades, salad dressings, as a dip for vegetables, and even breads. You can use it to flavor fish, or use it in any dish that requires fresh dill. Start small and build your flavor, as it is always easier to add more than to take away. Try marinating meat and fish in dill oil and some lemon before grilling, or drizzle some over cucumbers for a quick snack. Want to try some cold and refreshing soup recipes? Dill oil can really make those chilled soups pop. Get creative with your dill oil and see how flavorful it can be.

Speaking of dill oil as an essential oil, you can use it to help with some common health issues. You can find dill essential oils or use your mixture above for the following uses:

  • Inhale a few drops to help calm your nerves and promote rest.
  • Dill oil has been shown to promote a restful sleep when diffused or inhaled.
  • Add a few drops of dill oil to water and drink to help detox your body of toxins.
  • Add a few drops of dill oil to water and drink to help with bloating and gas symptoms.
  • Add dill oil to your meals to help promote a healthier blood sugar balance.
  • Dill oil when added to water can also help ease the symptoms of indigestion.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
