Directions:

1. Begin by making dots for the holes on the top of the lid. I use a dry erase marker so I can wipe off the dots when I am done.

2. Now, place the tip of a nail on the dot and gently hammer it in. You will find that nails go through the metal quite easily. You really don’t have to put forth much effort at all. Repeat until you have the holes where you want them. 7-8 holes seems to be sufficient.

3. Rinse off the lid to remove any metal shavings that may have come lose. You can also take a damp cloth and wipe away any traces of the dry erase marker.

4. Fill the jar with the dry good of your choice. Sugar, flour, salt, and other dry goods all work well.

5. Replace the lid and start shaking away!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
